Denver, the Mile High City, is Colorado's capital and largest city. With 78 official neighborhoods, it offers everything from downtown lofts in LoDo to historic homes in Washington Park and Cheesman Park, newer homes in Central Park and condos in the Denver Tech Center.
Denver counted 715,522 residents in the 2020 Census, and estimates put it above 740,000 by 2025. It is also the only state capital that is a consolidated city and county.
As of October 21, 2026, these are the figures from current MLS listings shown on this site for homes, townhomes and condos in Denver:
Figures are rounded, change daily and are not a guarantee of value. Ask us for an up-to-date report on any neighborhood.
Prices vary enormously by neighborhood. Condos start in the $200,000s, many single-family homes in established neighborhoods fall between about $500,000 and $1 million, and homes in areas such as Cherry Creek, Belcaro and Washington Park often reach $2 million and more.
Denver was platted in November 1858 at the confluence of Cherry Creek and the South Platte River during the Pike's Peak gold rush. It was named for James W. Denver, governor of Kansas Territory. Its official elevation of 5,280 feet, exactly one mile, gives it its nickname.
Most of the city is served by Denver Public Schools, which also offers a school choice enrollment process.
School assignments depend on the exact address. Confirm boundaries and enrollment options with the district before you buy.
I-25, I-70 and US 36 connect Denver with the rest of the Front Range, and RTD's commuter rail and light rail lines, with Union Station as the hub, serve the city and suburbs. Denver International Airport is about 20 miles from downtown.
