It is about 15 miles northeast of Boulder and 34 miles north of downtown Denver, with Longs Peak, the city's namesake, filling the western skyline. A walkable historic Main Street, a nationally known craft brewing scene and miles of greenway trails give Longmont the feel of a real town, with Boulder and Denver close enough for an easy commute.
Longmont counted 98,885 residents in the 2020 Census, making it the largest city in Boulder County after Boulder itself.
As of October 22, 2026, these are the figures from current MLS listings shown on this site for homes, townhomes and condos in Longmont:
Figures are rounded, change daily and are not a guarantee of value. A handful of large rural estates push the overall average far above what most buyers pay, so the typical single-family range is a better guide. Ask us for an up-to-date report on any neighborhood.
Longmont has homes at almost every price point. Condos in communities such as Fairview, Sunnyvale and the Villas at Ute Creek start in the low $200,000s to $300,000s. Established single-family neighborhoods such as Southmoor Park, Meadowlark, Park Ridge and Longmont Estates generally run from the high $400,000s to the $700,000s, and newer homes in Provenance and Mountain Brook reach $800,000 to $900,000 and up. At the top of the market, acreage and estate properties in the foothills west of town and around Gaynor Lake and Clover Basin are listed in the millions.
Other neighborhoods you will see often include Prospect New Town, Spring Valley near Ute Creek Golf Course, Fox Hill, Clover Basin, Hover Acres and the historic blocks of Old Town and West Old Town. In 1870, a group of Chicago businessmen organized the Chicago-Colorado Colony to buy land for a new town. In 1871 the colony platted a one-square-mile town site and named it Longmont in honor of Longs Peak, itself named for Major Stephen H. Long, who reached the St. Vrain valley in 1820. Longmont was incorporated in 1885. Farming built the early economy: a sugar factory opened on the east edge of town in 1903 and became part of Great Western Sugar, which operated here until 1977. Longmont adopted a home rule charter in 1961 and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2021.
Longmont is served by St. Vrain Valley Schools, the city's largest employer. High schools in town include Longmont, Skyline and Silver Creek, and the district offers a range of focus and choice programs.
School assignments depend on the exact address. Confirm boundaries with the district's school locator before you buy.
US 287 runs through town as Main Street, north to Loveland and south toward Denver, and Highway 119 connects Longmont to Boulder to the southwest and I-25 to the east. RTD buses serve Boulder and Denver, and FLEX regional buses run north to Loveland and Fort Collins. Major employers include St. Vrain Valley Schools, the City of Longmont, Seagate Technology, two hospitals and the Federal Aviation Administration. The city also runs NextLight, its own municipal fiber internet service.
