Johnstown sits at the crossroads of Northern Colorado, where I-25 meets U.S. Highway 34, with parts of town in both Weld and Larimer counties. It pairs a historic Parish Avenue downtown with fast-growing new neighborhoods and a major regional shopping hub, about 12 miles from Loveland and 16 miles from Greeley.

Johnstown is one of the busiest new-construction markets in the region: more than 100 newly built homes are listed, averaging around $490,000, in communities such as Granary, Revere, Southridge, Thompson River Ranch, Ledge Rock and the Ridge at Johnstown. Townhomes and smaller homes start around $300,000, and most single-family homes fall between the mid $400,000s and the $700,000s. Established neighborhoods include Thompson Crossing, Corbett Glen, Carlson Farms and Redstone Hills, along with older homes near downtown and a handful of acreage properties well above $1 million.
Harvey J. Parish homesteaded between the Big and Little Thompson rivers in the 1880s and laid out a town along the Great Western Railway in 1902. That year his seven-year-old son John was hospitalized, and Parish promised the town would be named "John's Town" if he got well. John recovered and later served as mayor. Parish, known locally as the "Water Wizard" for his irrigation work, also helped build the Hillsboro Ditch. A condensed milk plant and a Great Western sugar factory powered the early economy, and much of the original brick architecture still lines Parish Avenue. Parish's 1914 Craftsman home is now the Historic Parish House Museum, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Most of Johnstown is in Weld County School District RE-5J, which serves Johnstown and Milliken. Its schools include Pioneer Ridge and Elwell elementary schools, Riverview PK-8 and Roosevelt High School. The northwest part of town is served by Thompson School District.
School assignments depend on the exact address and district. Confirm boundaries with the district's school locator before you buy.
With I-25 and U.S. 34 meeting at the edge of town, Loveland, Greeley, Fort Collins and Windsor are all close, and Denver is under an hour away. The 2534 development at that interchange is anchored by a roughly 250,000-square-foot Scheels sporting goods store, the town's largest employer, along with restaurants and everyday shopping.
