Lafayette offers a real range. Townhomes and condos in communities such as Centaur Village, Hearthwood and Indian Peaks start around $300,000 to $400,000, many single-family homes fall between about $550,000 and $1.1 million, and larger homes in Hawk Ridge and Grace Mar reach $1.4 million and up. A few acreage properties push the very top of the market much higher.
Mary E. Miller founded Lafayette in 1888 and named it for her late husband, Lafayette Miller. Coal was found on the Miller farm in 1884, and mines such as the Simpson and the Cannon soon followed. Mary Miller later became a bank president, and the town's last mine, the Black Diamond, closed in 1956. The Waneka Granary, built in the 1870s, is the oldest structure in town.
Lafayette is served by the Boulder Valley School District, including Centaurus High School. Peak to Peak Charter School (K-12) is also in Lafayette.
School assignments depend on the exact address. Confirm boundaries with the district's school locator before you buy.
US 287 runs through the center of town, with Highways 7 and 42 and the Northwest Parkway nearby and I-25 a short drive east. Boulder, Broomfield and the Denver Tech corridor along US 36 are all within easy reach.
