Hygiene Colorado

Living in Hygiene, Colorado

Hygiene is a small, unincorporated farming community in Boulder County, between Longmont and Lyons at the edge of the foothills. It is known for open farmland, mountain views, small acreage and horse properties, and a strong sense of community history.

Most Hygiene-area homes carry a Longmont mailing address, so this page uses a map area around the community rather than a city name.

Hygiene Real Estate Market Snapshot

As of October 21, 2026, about nine homes were listed for sale in the Hygiene area on this site. They are mostly acreage and estate properties, ranging from about $850,000 for smaller older homes to several million dollars for large estates and ranches. With few sales and very different properties, a custom price analysis matters more here than averages.

A Little Hygiene History

The area was first called Pella. Jacob Stoner Flory of the Church of the Brethren arrived in 1873, the St. Vrain congregation formed in 1877, and its 1880 meetinghouse was the denomination's first in Colorado. In 1881 a tuberculosis sanatorium called the Hygiene Home opened here, and the community took its name. The historic church and the community's autumn Hygiene Hay Days festival still bring neighbors together.

What to Know Before You Buy

  • Hygiene Elementary School is part of the St. Vrain Valley School District. Confirm school assignment for your address with the district.
  • Rural properties may rely on wells, septic systems and irrigation ditch shares, and Boulder County land use rules apply. Water rights deserve a close look.
  • Longmont shopping and services are about 10 minutes east, and Lyons and the foothills are minutes west.

Some properties simply hold land. This one holds your breath. Framed by Longs Peak to the west and the Flatirons to the south, this singular Hygiene estate feels borrowed from a national park and delivers every comfort at an uncompromising level. Built in steel and stone with a solidity that feels less like a home and more like a landmark, this is construction meant to last generations. Park-like grounds, mature plantings, private trails and coveted water rights complete an outdoor setting of rare permanence. Inside, vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and floor-to-ceiling windows bring the mountains into the room. The Bulthaup chef's kitchen raises the standard further: luxury cabinetry, a six-burner Wolf range, dual Miele wall ovens, double Miele refrigerator and freezer, and a waterfall-edge island crowned in polished, Taj Mahal quartzite. The main-level primary suite wakes to Flatirons views, steps onto a balcony and retreats to a spa bath with steam shower, soaking tub and custom walk-in closet. The walkout lower level delivers a private theater, wine cellar, exercise room, wet bar and a self-contained guest apartment. Outside, a full-size pool, hot tub, waterfall, tennis court, covered patio with fireplace, enormous stone fire pit and outdoor kitchen surround a property where privacy feels absolute. A multi-purpose barn with commercial kitchen, Lutron and Savant automation and a commercial-grade generator complete the offering. A second barn makes way for horses, as well. Estates like this aren't built anymore; they're inherited, or discovered once in a lifetime.
