Mountain homes in Pinewood Springs often start in the $450,000s to $700,000s. In-town homes in Lyons Valley Park and the historic core generally run from about $800,000 to $1.3 million, and larger homes in Steamboat Valley, Stone Canyon and along the river reach $1.5 million and up.
Edward S. Lyon and his wife Adeline arrived from Connecticut in 1880. The town was platted in 1882, named for Lyon and incorporated in 1891. Its red sandstone quickly became a major industry: rail service from 1884 shipped the stone to cities as far away as Chicago and New York, and many buildings on the University of Colorado Boulder campus are built from Lyons sandstone. The restored 1885 depot is still a town landmark.
Lyons is part of the St. Vrain Valley School District, with an elementary school and Lyons High School in town.
School assignments depend on the exact address. Confirm boundaries with the district's school locator before you buy.
US 36 and Highway 7 lead west to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park, while US 36 south and Highway 66 east connect Lyons to Boulder and Longmont, each roughly 20 to 30 minutes away.
