Fort Collins has something at nearly every price point. Condos and townhomes in areas like Rigden Farm and Stanton Creek start in the $300,000s, many single-family homes fall between about $475,000 and $800,000, and historic Old Town homes and larger properties in the foothills reach $2 million and up. New construction continues in neighborhoods such as Waterfield and East Ridge.
Fort Collins began in 1864 as a U.S. Army outpost, replacing Camp Collins after a flood destroyed it. It was named for William O. Collins and incorporated as a town on February 12, 1883. Agriculture and Colorado State University, founded as the state's agricultural college, shaped the city's growth.
Public schools are run by Poudre School District. Colorado State University is the second-largest university in the state by enrollment.
School assignments depend on the exact address. Confirm boundaries with the district's school locator before you buy.
I-25 runs along the city's east side, and US 287 becomes College Avenue through the center of town. Loveland, Windsor and Timnath are close by, and Denver is about an hour south.
