Schools
St. Vrain Valley Schools. New families register online any time of year, then finish enrollment with the school. Every elementary school offers free full-day kindergarten (children must turn 5 by October 1). To attend a school other than your neighborhood school, apply through open enrollment.
Schools include Erie High School, Erie Middle School and several elementary schools. Parts of Erie on the Boulder County side are in the Boulder Valley School District instead. Browse homes in the Erie High School area.
School assignments depend on the exact address. Confirm boundaries with the district before you buy.
Getting Around
- By car: I-25 (exit 232) on the east, Highways 7 and 52, E-470 and the Northwest Parkway.
- Airport: Denver International is about 35 minutes away.
- Transit: bus service is limited, so most residents drive.
Healthcare
The nearest full-service hospitals are Good Samaritan in Lafayette and the two Longmont hospitals.
What It Costs to Live Here
- Property taxes: they depend on the address, school district and any metro district. Look up the actual tax bill for every home you consider.
- Sales tax: the state rate is 2.9%, and the city, county and special districts add their own, so the total varies by address.
- Insurance and radon: hail drives Colorado home insurance costs, and nearly half of Colorado homes test above the EPA radon action level. Get quotes and test during your inspection period.
Good to know: Because Erie sits in two counties, your motor vehicle office, property tax and school district depend on which side of the line you live on.

Things to Do Once You're Here
- About 82 miles of trails and more than 1,500 acres of open space

- Erie Town Fair, Balloon Festival and Biscuit Days
